Rail Australia announce luxury Platinum Service
Travelling on The Legendary Ghan just keeps getting better and continues to be popular with travellers from Australia
and around the world. This 3 day / 2 night rail experience between Darwin in the Northern Territoryâ€™s Top End and
Adelaide, the capital of South Australia can now be experienced in a new authentic luxury Australian style called
In September 2008, Platinum Service was launched on The Ghan once a week to great fanfare, with The Ghan
becoming the most luxurious train in Australia and rivaling some of the great trains of the world. The
inaugural departures in both directions were soon sold out. In November 2008, Platinum Service was also introduced
to the delight of holidaymakers onto the Indian Pacific for travel between Perth and Sydney via Adelaide on selected
services through to the end February 2009.
The Success Story So Farâ€¦
Platinum Service has delighted over 800 guests in 2008 and by the end of January 2009 in excess of 1000 guests
have travelled in Platinum Service. In the first two months of 2009 nearly 500 guests have experienced this luxury
service with more than a third of travellers from international markets and the UK topping the table of the international
In 2009 the story continues with the introduction of Platinum Service on all twice weekly departures of The Ghan from
April to December. Platinum Service will also return to the Indian Pacific on selected services again in November and
December 2009 and in March 2010.
In January 2010, Platinum Service will also be available on the new outback adventure touring train offered by Great
Southern Rail â€“ The Southern Spirit, creating yet another milestone for this luxury level of service.
