Migration to Australia sees population boom “biggest since the 1960’s”
Australian Bureau of Statistics data released today shows the population increased by just over two per cent – or 439,000 people – in the year to March. that means that the population of Australia is just under 22 million – at 21.8 million inhabitants – and most of the increase has come from migration.
Over 300,000 people migrated to Australia between March 08 and 09, with Western Australia leading the growth. All states recorded population growth – in fact in some states there has been a mini baby boom – although Tasmania is seeing the slowest growth in population.
