Additional criteria announced by Immigration New Zealand for skilled migrant pool

Immigration New Zealand has today announced the additional criteria for selecting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from the Skilled Migrant Category Pool.

The criteria are applied when there are places available in the Skilled Migrant Pool after all applicants who score between 100 and 140 points in the emigration point system and have a job offer in New Zealand have been taken into consideration.

The Minister of Immigration sets other Expressions of Interest criteria on which candidates can be selected every six months.

The additional selection criteria (applicable until the 31st January 2010) are

  • EOIs that include 15 points for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage (in descending order of their points total);
  • EOIs that include 10 points for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage (in descending order of their points total);
  • EOIs that include 10 points for a qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage (in descending order of their points total);
  • the points total of EOIs not meeting any of the above criteria.
